Our favorite NL is the NL2. She can get taller than the #1 and #5, however she is the most flavorful and sweetest of all the NLs that we maintain at Deep Ellum Seeds.
NL2 was created in 1985 by Nevil, after he selected a choice Afghani line from America, crossed it with the Kush4 from Jim Ortega and then back-crossed to the Afghani. Nevil began offering NL2 in 1988 and worked the line further after that. In 1991 when Sensi enveloped his operation, the named was changed was Hindu Kush. Our offering of NL2 is unique in that it is the only version available on the market today that is a direct inbreeding of the Seed Bank of Holland’s 1988 original issue of NL2.
There are two distinct phenos; the shorter Kush types and the taller, open-structured Afghani types. All are sweet and delicious, but the taller types tend to be juiciest and tastiest. NL2 produces an assertive yet, easy-going playful stone and, like the other NLs, she is forgiving and easy for beginners.
Over the decades, we have inbred towards the taller Christmas tree types, however for this current generation, we chose the most Kush4-looking male we could find from the last generation that we made 2 years ago, and hit our tall mom. This generation will throw more Kush4 phenos than previous releases did, which are closer to the 1989-1996 version.
