The Nor-Cal Mendo Purps has been a mainstay in the California cannabis scene for decades and there is good reason: it is a terrific plant! Deep jammy-grape flavors mask the smack-down canna-beast lying within. Mendo Purps wrote the book on copious resin production and knockout highs. The family has held this cut for a few generations and we always come back to the sure thing when palates run to purples. And we never disrespect the Purps with half-hearted projects.
When we created our “25/22” (Gelato #25 /Dosidos #22) it was with the thought in mind that there was a treasure trove of potential pairings that the 25/22’s ridiculous frost-covered bag appeal and mind-altering stone could benefit from. Our Nor-Cal Mendo Purps was exactly that! The result was our “25/22 Purps”! Splendid, deep, red-grape frosty nuggets, wrapped in layers of dark fruit and chocolate terps – with a hint of two-week-old gym socks. As killer as that sounds, we decided we needed more gas – a LOT more gas.
We knew we should pair up the 25/22 Purps with the local Nor-Cal Sour Diesel pro, from our good friends at Rebel Genetics and we did not shy away from the task. We sorted through over 160 Rebel Sour Diesel F3 seeds to originally pheno-hunt our go-to male. We narrowed down this huge population to a single male out of about 70 in total, chosen for a wicked, classic sour, dirty sock, lemon, greasy OG smell. This dude was sticky to the nines with abundant pollen production in chunky flower clusters. I was impressed with the overall branching structure and resistance to powdery mildew, not to mention pests. An absolute winner!
We could not have been more spot on, (at least after another selection round). “Iced Purps” is one battleship of a Sierra Purple Diesel! Super frosty, rock-hard, purple diesel nugs that bring that killer grape-gas nose we were looking for. The Purps brought a much shorter 8-week flowering time than traditional sours and kept the plant structure we have known and loved. The promise of a superior hash dumper is well within reach with this girl!
I am sure we have only scratched the surface on this line. Iced Purps has a world of potential for the pheno hunters looking for that Purps winner you always wanted. This one is a beast!
