One of the mainstays of our nursery and summer gardens has always been the Nor-Cal Lemon Kush, which has been around at least two generations in our family. Big, beastly, cash cropper that is resistant to everything and finishes fast, with lip-smacking, frosty Lemon Kush buds. It has been so stable that we have not been moved to change up the plant much, but we thought about making a few “new versions” of the Lemon Kush profile, with as little change as possible.
The Nor-Cal Pineapple Thai IBL, circa 2000′, has been around for what seem like forever. Using the old local Hmong Pineapple Kush line, some bright soul decided it a good idea to cross it with another local favorite, a “wild” Highland Thai IBL (which is also Hmong). This is a Hmong creation and a really, really fine one at that. (The Hmong are some of the finest growers on the planet!) The Nor-Cal Pineapple Thai IBL always ran too long for practical use at our latitude though the plant itself is STELLAR! The thought occurred to us to work it back to our current project, and see if we could bring the run time back into the fold and add a bit of the tropical fruit to the Lemon Kush citrus palette without sacrificing its excellent terpene pallet and generous yields.
The results of this pairing produced some of the very best terpenes I have seen. The tropical fruit terps proved to be super complex. There is a little bit of everything in this plant terp-wise, from pineapple to tangerine to lemon-lime to herbal notes. It’s really a super nice plant!
